Mandatory Granting

Mandatory Grants

Legal Aid Manitoba and Law Society of Manitoba

The Legal Profession Act sets out the two mandatory grants the Foundation must make each year:  to Legal Aid Manitoba and to The Law Society of Manitoba. The amounts of these grants are determined by a formula set out in the statute based upon the amount of IOLTA revenue received in the prior fiscal year.

The grant to Legal Aid Manitoba is to be used for its general purposes, and the grant to The Law Society of Manitoba is for educational purposes and for expenses incurred in ensuring lawyers’ compliance with trust accounting provisions of the Act affecting the Foundation.
